Sinn Féin Surge

Negotiations to form a Government are going to be very difficult. SF won’t fear another election, indeed some in the party would probably welcome one.

If the party had run enough candidates, they would likely have the largest number of TDs. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime.

The same forces that have caused such political instability in the Western world, lack of affordable housing, healthcare, inequality are now playing out here in Ireland with a shift to the left rather than the right.

FF SF coalition seems most likely scenario as quite a few FF TDs would not have a problem with this, but SF would drive a very hard bargain. Not sure if Micheál Martin could personally accept it.

Feels a little like the situation in Spain in the last year where they found it very difficult to form a Government.

An interesting couple of months ahead.
