So now we know. Having 90% of the population over the age of 12 fully vaccinated is not enough to keep Covid from overwhelming our hospitals. And so we are rolling back on what was more or less the complete opening up, with more restrictions on mobility in place from Friday.

Extending covid certs though is not going to be of much use if many hospitality venues are just not checking them.

We will all be exposed to Covid. The challenge for policy makers is how to manage the roll out of boosters, the protection of the most vulnerable, and the level of activity in society in such a way that whle we build collective immunity, the hospitals are not overwhelmed.

It’s going to be a difficult Winter but next year hopefully will be better.

Any countries that have not yet experienced Delta in Winter should be paying very close attention to whats happening in Western Europe at the moment.
